And Now Switzerland

Monday we left Salzburg and spent the day on the train…on our way to Basel Switzerland. Just after we arrived at the station and were looking at the departure screen to find our platform, we noticed that we had 2nd class tickets! Not a snob but I really am getting to like first class….so I zipped into the office and within 5 minutes had 2 new tickets!

We travelled through the Austrian Alps and into the Swiss Alps…it looked so much like BC except for the little villages and towns look European (of course) with a church with a tall steeple and little narrow streets and quaint buildings.

We had to change trains in Zurich, had only about 10 minutes as the first train arrived a little later than scheduled. We are getting good….we made it from platform 7 to 14 and loaded into the car in record time.

Arrived in Basel about 5:00pm and into our hotel by about 5:10 as it is right across the street from the station. It is attached to the Hotel Euler, which has a lot of business people in it and then in the back of it is the Hotel City Inn, same front door, same front desk. Another hotel got through Booking.com….as trip advisor clients of this hotel wrote….only an elevator to the 1st floor (and we are on the second) and through a maze of hallways and stairs to get to the rooms. Curt would really like the colour décor…same bright green that he painted his room at home! Cute room, cute bathroom, free wifi (complicated to get into though). Then we went in search for dinner….

Ok…Sheryl had some dinner left overs from last night so I just wanted something quick and cheap, so I picked the Burger King a couple of doors down and ordered a whopper, small fries and a medium diet coke…..14.20 Euro! About $15!!!! I didn’t have any Swiss francs but it was still about the same price.

We wandered around checking out prices of things….much the same as ours really a few things more expensive (obviously the fast food….not many over weight Swiss people ) Then I used the bank machine in the station to get 100 Swiss francs and it cost me $106 US so really not much difference in the exchange rate.

Then went to get the ticket for going to Paris on Wednesday morning….I had one all picked out and gave the number to the ticket agent….it was full as was the next one….finally got seats on the 12:34 train arriving in Paris at 15:37 (3:37) …..I was not happy about this and then on top of that instead of the 4 Euro that we have been paying for reservations…reservations on this train (because we were in Switzerland) was 30 Francs each!!!! Grrrrr

Then on top of all that we went for 3 caches and could not find any!!! I’m not liking Switzerland at this point….tomorrow will be better.
