We left St Goar on Tuesday morning, jumping on the train and continued to follow the beautiful the Rhine to Koln (Cologne) and arriving at 12:00. ( But Rick Steves is right in his book the best part of that trip is between Bacharach and St Goar)
As we were finding the platform for our next train we looked out the large glass front door and there was this magnificent cathedral out in front. It was the Koln Cathedral (Dom)….started in 1248 and finished in 1322 and towering 5515 feet. Seeing this we wish we had arrived earlier so that we could have taken a look inside….it is an amazing piece of architecture.
We had a pleasant train ride through the countryside….in the north there is a few more hills. Two young men were sitting with us…a fashion designer from Copenhagen and a play director from Norway who were coming back from fashion week in Paris and heading to Berlin for a holiday before going back to Copenhagen. They kept us entertained with information about the area we were travelling by….we went through the city were Volkswagon was made and there was one town that had a transportation system that was like a reverse sky train (Sheryl’s words)
We got into Berlin about 5 and came straight to the house. While I was away this weekend there was a big storm and one of the trees in the back yard was leaning way over the patio…I was prepared for seeing this as Anita has email…..she had heard from her neighbour Mr Fuhry. Sheryl really loves the house and the area that we are in….we went for a walk in the area and bought ice cream
Tomorrow we have a full day of touring. (and I will catch up on my blogs.....)
